Timo Werner’s first Chelsea training session

Timo Werner has officially started work as a Chelsea player, after taking part in his first training session at Cobham today.

The German, who has joined the Blues from RB Leipzig ahead of next season, was in attendance at Stamford Bridge yesterday to see his new team-mates secure a top-four finish in the Premier League courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Wolves. Quick-fire goals from Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud in first-half injury time secured the points.

While his new Chelsea team-mates enjoy a well deserved day off today, Werner checked in at Cobham to take part in his first training session as he builds up his fitness ahead of next season. Video of how that went can be watched above with more photos below.

The striker undertook plenty of stretching and fitness work before then moving onto ball work, including some dribbling drills and, of course, some finishing work at the end.

Welcome to Chelsea, Timo!

Werner, who is an established German international and former club team-mate of Toni Rudiger from their days at Stuttgart, will follow the same training programme that fellow new addition, Hakim Ziyech has been following.

Ziyech and Werner cannot be registered to play for the Blues until next season but are both allowed to train at Cobham with Frank Lampard’s squad.

The Blues have completed our Premier League season but still have the small matter of an FA Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley on Saturday, plus a Champions League second leg clash with Bayern Munich, to contend with.
